| “Innovator” scoops the top excellence award The 2022 Master Electricians awards saw projects ranging from seed-cleaning trucks to electric passenger ferries and more. But there could only be one who received the top excellence award – and that was Dalton Electrical. Other winners included: Excellence in Energy Efficiency Award – The McKay GroupExcellence in Innovation Award – Des Scott Electrical 2008 LtdExcellence in Lighting Design Award & Project (over $5 million) – KME ServicesExcellence Award for a Project ($1 to $5 million) – Buzz ElectricsExcellence Award for a Project (under $1 million) – Aotea Electric CanterburyExcellence Award for an Emerging Business – Simpson Electrical LtdIndustry Champion Award – Buzz Barham of Buzz ElectricsCongratulations to all finalists and winners. This year we had 63 entries from across New Zealand – twice as many as in the last competition in 2019 – and the quality of all was impressive. | Three electrical apprentices take top honours In the hotly contested 2022 Master Electricians Apprentice Challenge, Mathew Masters (Auckland) and Thomas Mitchell (Palmerston North) were named the winners. After two days of intense competition against eight other finalists, the pair received the ultimate “bragging rights” after being acknowledged for their efforts at a special awards ceremony last month. Mathew, who is employed by Etco and hosted by Dalton Electrical, won the title in the industrial division, and Thomas, employed by Etco, and hosted by Hedley Electrical, won the title in the domestic/commercial division. Jiehong Tan (employed by Etco and hosted by Dalton Electrical) received the Master Electricians Initiative Award – based on how the finalists approached the issue of health and safety as well as their conduct within the competition setting.
