Master Electricians Apprentice Challenge Finals Over three days from Tuesday 26 to Thursday 28 May, twelve young men were kept very busy. They undertook five two-hour competition modules each, five off-site activities each, early starts, late nights, great team bonding utilising recently learned apprenticeship skills – and pushed themselves to the limit.
Rahul Babu is named ECANZ Industrial Apprentice 2015
Based at Claudelands Events Centre, as part of the Waikato Electrical Trade Show, many of the Challenge Finalists had family and employers visiting and supporting, and this was all wrapped up on Thursday evening with a formal dinner to announce and celebrate the winners.
An important part of this was played by Sponsors, each donating materials and having a hand in designing the modules, and were on-site to share their valuable knowledge to support the boys, which was appreciated by all.
The Activities The Finalists also took part in off-site activities to round off their few days in Hamilton.
Included were kayaking on the Mighty Waikato, cycling with the New Zealand Cycle team at the Avantidrome in Cambridge (well, our boys were off to the side!), and paint ball.
The Results – Congratulations!
Rahul Babu (22) who is employed and trained by etco and works for Dalton Electrical Co Ltd, took out top spot in the Industrial division, cleaning up in all five modules.
Joseph Morris (24) who is employed by Russells Electrical in Waipukurau and trained by EIT, won the Domestic/Commercial division, as well as two of the individual category modules.
